intentions in the Mediterranean as a whole and the strength of the forces available for amphibious operations. We do not believe we could concentrate assault shipping in the Adriatic without the Germans getting to know of it. The Germans appear to be most nervous about operations against Southern France in conjunction with OVERLORD. Accordingly if, before OVERLORD is launched, the Germans knew that we had assembled amphibious assault forces in the Adriatic they would appreciate that operations against the South of France were unlikely.
