Effect of Operations in Northern Italy. Note by Sec.

1 Jan 1944

ANNEX SECRETARY, J.I.C. F.P.S. In J.I.C.(44)45(0) you assessed the German reactions and opposition to a landing in Istria (say by one division in the assault) combined with an advance from the line Rimini-Pisa on the assumption that the Allied forces arrive on that line by the 1st April. We would now like to put the problem in a slightly different light. 2. Assume that the Allies reach the line Rimini-Pisa in sufficient time to stage an assault against it in co-ordination with OVERLORD (Y date).
