DMI/253 dated 22 Jan. 44. APPRECIATION BY J.I.C. (S.E.A. & I) ON JAPANESE NAVAL, ARMY AND AIR STRENGTHS January 1944 OBJECT 1. To decide (a) What forces Japan has now available. (b) What her reserve of land forces is. (c) What proportion of that reserve she could make available for her western perimeter and the total forces she can dispose there. (d) What merchant tonnage she has available for troop transportation. (e) What naval forces she would allot to the defence of her Western perimeter should she consider attack was imminent.
