Effect of Threat to Germany of Turkish Belligerency. Note by Sec.

1 Nov 1943

ANNEX Extract from the Minutes of the meeting of the Chiefs of Staff Committee held on THURSDAY, 23rd December, 1943 at 10.30 a.m. 5. EFFECT OF THREAT TO GERMANY OF TURKISH BELLIGERENCY. (J.I.C.(43) 518 (0) (Final)) BRIGADIER SUGDEN said he thought the Joint Intelligence Sub-Committee had under-estimated the threat. In his opinion, the position of Germany vis-a-vis Turkey was somewhat similar to ours vis-a-vis Spain in the campaign in North Africa; but whereas that threat had receded with our success, he hoped that the threat to Germany would go on increasing.
