World Wide Scales of Attack. Report by J.I.C.

1 Nov 1943

(v) Port Said to Alexandretta. Unless the G.A.F. was aware of an Allied operation directed against the Aegean being mounted in ports in this area, there is no likelihood of air attack. Even in these circumstances attacks which might be launched would be on a light scale, since it would be necessary to use Rhodes as an advanced landing ground. It is doubtful if more than 10 to 15 Long Range Bombers would be involved in any raid, and such raids would be unlikely to exceed two to three a week. (c) Gibraltar An Axis assault by land, sea or air is out of the question.
