Sumatra - Malaya. Note by Secretary

1 Nov 1943

43/1815 MOST SECRET A N N E X Secretary, J.I.C. The E.P.S. are re-examining the question of operations against SUMATRA and MALAYA starting in early March 1945. It would be appreciated if the J.I.C. could say whether the scale of Japanese opposition given in J.I.C. (43) 337 (O) of 17th August will still hold good under the following assumptions:(a) Germany is defeated in the summer of 1944. (b) During early 1944 the Andamans are captured and operations for the opening of a land-route to China through Upper Burma have taken place.
