A volume of reports commissioned for the Joint Intelligence Sub-Committee (JIC). The JIC was formed of representatives from the intelligence services, the armed services, and the Foreign Office. Its purpose was to assess military, security, and foreign policy requirements and coordinate Britain’s intelligence organisations accordingly. A vast range of international and domestic issues are investigated and analysed in the JIC’s reports. Subjects covered in this file include the development of German secret weapons, including V1 missiles; the Axis oil position; the situation in Yugoslavia; the effects of Turkey entering to war on the Allied side; German penetration of Special Operations Executive (SOE) networks in occupied Europe; an assessment of German forces available to repel an Allied invasion of France; the effects in Germany of the Allied policy of unconditional surrender; plans for the liberation of Burma; Japanese propaganda; colonial independence movements in India and Thailand; and a potential Allied landing in Norway.
