Relation of "Overlord" to Mediterranean. Note by Secretary, Joint Staff

1 Oct 1943

MOST SECRET ANNEX RELATION OF "OVERLORD" TO THE MEDITERRANEAN Object The wisdom of our agreed strategy of dividing the Allied European forces roughly fifty-fifty between North West Europe and the Mediterranean next spring requires review. On the assumption that ultimately we must open up the sea lines and communications between U.S.A., U.K. and Europe via North West France, it is required to review with a fresh mind the best use of the Allied resources available to achieve this at the earliest possible date.
