Air Exploitation of Operations in N. Sumatra. Note by Secretary

1 Oct 1943

ANNEX The C.A.S. has called for an appreciation by the Air Staff on the possibilities of exploiting operations in N. Sumatra from the air point of view. Before this appreciation can be made the following information is required:(i) Japanese shipping routes within range of our Heavy Bombers when they are based in N. Sumatra and the dependence of the enemy on these routes for the maintenance of his forces and (if this applies) transport of raw material to Japan. (Note: The Air Staff suggest that the completion of the Siam-Burmah railway will reduce Japanese dependence on sea supplies for Burmah.
