(Abridged Version for Russians)

1 Oct 1943

of the 750,000, 500,000 are likely to be men between 47 and 59, and only perhaps 100,000 between 18 and 35. If, however, casualties prove to be greater than we have estimated, then the comb-out will be greater but any extra men will be from the age groups 47-59. To replace front-line casualties Germany will therefore have to rely mainly upon the 1926 Class, which should provide 550,000 men by the 1st July, 1944, and on some 100,000 younger men from the comb-out. We therefore proceed on the basis that the intake into the Armed Forces will be 1,300,000 (550,000 of the 1926 Class and 750,000 comb-out), as against 1,500,000 permanent casualties (battle and medical).
