Demands on the Inter-Services Topographical Department. Note by Secretary

1 Aug 1943

ANNEX Extract from C.O.S. (43)246 Paragraph 12 "We recommend, therefore, that all demands (including those now outstanding) on the I.S.T.D. for all types of topographical intelligence for new areas should be considered by a small high level Inter-Service Committee, who would decide, after weighing up the operational requirement in relation to the work involved, whether the work is to be carried out and, if so, with what priority. We suggest that the J.I.C. should be instructed to set up machinery for the above purpose, se as to ensure that all requests for topographical information, which cannot be provided by the Intelligence Departments of the appropriate Ministry, are made initially on the Intelligence Section (Operations).
