(iv) To what extent is our capture of Kuriles and/or Sakhalin and/or Hokkaido in the summer of 1945 likely to encourage Russia to enter the war or give us the use of air bases? (v) If Russia were to go to war with Japan, what scale of air attack might she develop against the Japanese mainland? (vi) What are the prospects of Russia allowing us to establish an air supply route to China from Siberia? Note: We are asking the Foreign Office to make an appreciation of all possible action which we might take to increase the chances of Russia to join in or give us the use of air bases in the circumstances given in para.
