4. While the potential scale of attack by long range bombers has thus increased, it is unlikely that the higher scale shown above will in fact be reached. The increase in long range bomber and fighter bomber strength on the Western Front is due to German fears of cross channel operations. The bomber force is likely to be husbanded for use against such operations. Should this threat not materialise before winter weather makes invasion less probable, they are likely than to be diverted to other theatres where active land operations are in progress.
