Situation in the Balkans during Second Half of 1943. Report by J.I.C.

1 Jul 1943

ITALIAN TROOPS IN THE BALKANS 8. The present disposition of the 31 Italian divisions in the Balkans, including the islands, is shown on Sketch Map A. By the time Italy has capitulated to the Allies, some of the Italian troops in the Balkans may already have returned home. All Italian troops then left in the Balkans will be animated by the single desire of doing the same. Those in the north of Yugoslavia may succeed in getting back to Italy if necessary on foot. The troops further south will, however, be in a more difficult situation.
