German Forces in Norway and Finland. Report by J.I.C.

1 Jul 1943

APPENDIX 'A' NOTES ON GERMAN NAVAL FORCES BASED ON NORWAY During most of the first half of 1943 only Tirpitz, Scharnhorst and Lutzow (with about 10 destroyers) have been based on Norway all in Northern Norway. The remainder have returned to the Baltic for repair and refit and probably to train personnel which have relieved those withdrawn for service in U-boats. During the last 6 months, minefields off ports and on approaches to the Inner Lead routes have been augmented. 'M' Class Minesweepers, Patrol Vessels and other light naval craft (including a few E-boats in Southern Norway) are stationed in Norway for defensive work on the coast.
