German Manpower. Report by the Ad Hoc Commmittee under the Chairmanship of Professor Dennison

1 Jul 1943

2 3. We estimate that the gross intake of men into the Armed Forces from the 17th May, 1939, to the 30th June, 1943, was just over 11½ millions. The net drain on the civilian labour force was about 1 million less than this, as we estimate that about this number of disabled men have been returned from the Armed Forces to civilian occupations. 4. The supply of men aged between 18 and 37 fit for military service is virtually exhausted. If economic risks are taken perhaps a further 750,000 between the ages of 38 and 50.
