2. Mussolini, with such land and air support as he can obtain from Germans, is clearly determined to keep Italy in war so long as he can control situation. Evidence shows, however, that succession of military defeats in North Africa, intensification of Allied bombing of Italy and approach of war to doorstep of Italy is bringing into open more and more, among mass of Italian people, and even among some at least of leaders, expressions of war-weariness, hatred of Germans, discontent with regime and desire for excuse to get out of war on almost any terms.
