German Threats of Air and other forms of Attack on Great Britain. Report by J.I.C.

1 May 1943

Hitler sees in the long range rocket a means of retaliating against England for the bombing of the Ruhr and that he is pressing for it to be brought into action as quickly as possible without awaiting technical perfection. We are advised that such a rocket might be ready for operational use by the middle of August. Talk of a "secret weapon" has, however, been a feature of German propaganda throughout the war, and its recurrence now when things are going badly for Germany is not by itself significant of German intentions.
