IN WASHINGTON ON U.S.J.I.C.90(2nd Draft) THE SITUATION IN THE BURMAGENERAL COMMENTS (a) This Peninsula forms part of the "inner barrier" (viz., the line of the chin Hills, the Burma coast, the Malay Peninsula, Borneo and so on) on which the Japanese relied in the first place for the defence of their gains. To give depth to the defence and to secure the economic resources of Sumatra and Java, the Japanese later established an "outer barrier", (viz., the line of the chin Hills, Burma coast, Andaman Islands, Nicobar Islands, Sumatra, Java and so on).
