For instance, we know, I suppose, what percentage of the British Army was actually engaged in the Somme fighting of 1916. We have estimated what percentage of the German Army was correspondingly engaged in the Russian fighting of 1941. The insertion of these percentages, particularly the British one, which is a matter of record, might make the contrast between the respective monthly percentages of loss seem much less surprising.
