A volume of reports commissioned for the Joint Intelligence Sub-Committee (JIC). The JIC was formed of representatives from the intelligence services, the armed services, and the Foreign Office. Its purpose was to assess military, security, and foreign policy requirements and coordinate Britain's intelligence organisations accordingly. A vast range of international and domestic issues are investigated and analysed in the JIC's reports. Subjects covered in this file include German knowledge of Allied plans prior to the invasion of Sicily; the possibility of a renewed German air attack on the United Kingdom using new types of bombs and long-range rockets; the possible collapse of the Italian war effort; the possibility of Germany invading Switzerland and the Iberian peninsula; anti-Nazi resistance movements throughout occupied Europe and in Germany; the effect of the Allied bombing offensive on the German war effort; and Japanese intentions in the event of a German defeat.
