Air Defences of "Horrified". Note by Secretary

1 Mar 1943

ANNEX EXECUTIVE PLANNING SECTION This note examines the effect on the air defences of HORRIFIED of an acceleration in HUSKY. Our comments apply, equally to May or June. 1. If HUSKY takes place while the Axis are still in Tunisia. Assuming that the Axis are still in Tunisia and are holding their main defence line from north of Enfidaville Medjez el Bab Cape Scrat, some 100-120 S.E. fighter types would be retained for the defence of Tunisia. The result of this retention of aircraft in Tunisia, taking into account reinforcements from Western Europe, would be that the fighter defences (including twin engine fighters) of "Horrified" would on a strictly mathematical calculation be decreased by 14% for the quick "Husky" as compared with the original "Husky".
