German Reinforcements for "Husky". Note by Secy.

1 Mar 1943

In view of importance which Germany must attach to continued participation of Italy in the war, we feel that she will do her utmost to strengthen any Italian area which is considered to be threatened, and is it therefore not possible that a further German Division, or part of one, may be sent to Horrified? We have no indications here that such reinforcements are available and we should be grateful for an opinion from you as to the feasability of a 2nd German Division being made available, or whether individual German units might be sent which with German troops already on the island would give the equivalent of a further German Division.
