Scale of Attack on "Gearbox". Report by J.I.C.

1 Mar 1943

Should any worthwhile target present itself, such as the presence of a convoy or a major naval unit, an attack by a maximum of ten Ju. 88 long-range bombers per day might be expected over a period of, say, three days, after which it would fall to negligible proportions. The scale of attack might be increased if Germany were to reinforce her bomber force in North Norway, but such reinforcement is not considered probable. 7. Conclusions Probable scale of attack during summer of 1943 resolves itself into spasmodic attacks by single aircraft and U-boats.
