Atlantic Islands. Note by Secretary

1 Mar 1943

SIR ALAN BROOKE said that he considered that the Appreciation+ by the Joint Intelligence Sub-Committee was too optimistic. He was prepared to agree that Germany would not have the forces to stage a counter-attack in Russia, but he could not accept the contention that they would be unable to withdraw the fourteen divisions, which it had been estimated would be required by them for the invasion of Spain. He suggested that the Joint Intelligence sub-Committee should be invited to prepare a further Report setting out the data upon which they based their Appreciation.
