Scale of Air Attack Against the United Kingdom. Report by J.I.C.

1 Mar 1943

4. In assessing the availability of the above aircraft for attacks against land targets in the United Kingdom, certain deductions have to be made:(i) the 45 F.W. 200s. will be employed on antishipping and long range-reconnaissance patrols in connection with the U-boat campaign; (ii) certain miscellaneous commitments, such as minelaying, will reduce the force available by some 5 aircraft; (iii) the routine commitments of reconnaissance units, for which Long Range Bomber aircraft must be fitted with special equipment and in which specially trained crews must be used, will reduce the strength of aircraft available for diversion to long range bombing by about 60.
