Finland's Prospects and Intentions. Report

1 Jan 1943

8. Fuel Germany will probably have supplied Finland with about 160,000 tons of coke and between 500,000 and 600,000 tons of coal for the year ending 31st March, 1943. This represents a monthly delivery of 60,000 tons of solid fuel. This fuel is mainly used in industry, transport, oil and gas production. Hydro-electric power is developed extensively in Finland and the main industrial use of solid fuel is in the woodpulp and similar industries. Coal is used on important trains, but the railways could run a skeleton service on local wood fuel and peat.
