The Use of Infra-Red Devices. Note by Secretary

1 Jan 1943

With particular reference to paragraph 6(a) of the Report, it was true that the enemy possessed equipment comparable to the simpler British types but there was no evidence to show that they had anything equivalent to our improved devices. SIR DUDLEY POUND said that the Admiralty confirmed the War office views. Referring to the same paragraph in the Report, he was informed that serial numbers were required on the instruments in order to check their issue as "most secret" equipment. He suggested that the British Joint Communications Board should be invited to arrange for some method of coding their serial numbers.
