Factors Likely to Govern Rommel's Withdrawal. Report by J.I.C.

1 Jan 1943

Rommel's Tactics 15. Rommel is likely to withdraw the non-mobile Italian Infantry from each successive position before any threat to them from the 8th Army develops and to hold off the 8th Army with his mobile troops. These in turn are likely to hold on in each position until pressure by the 8th Army, or the threat of being outflanked from the South, forces them to withdraw Conclusion 16. Rommel's withdrawal from Agheila to Buerat (230 miles) was carried out under similar circumstances and with only light losses.
