Capture of a Certain Island. Note by Secretary

1 Jan 1943

(b) At what rate could the enemy put in these reinforcements? 4. The rate of reinforcement of Sardinia, subsequent to an Allied assault, is dependent on the capacity of ports available in the Island; immediate availability of shipping; the proximity of reinforcing troops to ports of embarkation; and, above all, the degree of Allied Naval and Air interference. 5. In Tunisia the rate of Axis reinforcement during the first six weeks after the Allied landing in French North Africa was approximately 1,000 men per day by sea and by air transport.
