Future Planning Sections Requirements - The Balkans. Note by the Secretary

1 Nov 1942

Question 5. What is the military value to us of the Guerilla Forces in Yugoslavia and Greece; are any localities in those countries particularly favourable to us? 6. Guerilla forces in Yugoslavia and Greece would probably redouble their efforts as a result of an Italian collapse, and the removal of the Italian garrisons in those countries (now 29 divisions) would give the guerillas an excellent opportunity to re-organise and equip themselves. Unless Germany could send large forces to take the place of the Italians, the guerillas would very soon be able strongly to attack such German forces as remained.
