Italian Interpreters for Prisoners of War Camps in India. Note by the Secretary

1 Oct 1942

(c) It would be possible to approach the Canadian and American authorities, although the employment of their personnel in India raises considerable administration complications which will take some time to settle. (d) A suggestion that Maltese might be brought from the Island on returning convoys is not considered desirable, since it is felt that there would be a mutual prejudice between the two races. (e) A further suggestion that English speaking Italian Ps/W should be used as interpreters offers certain obvious advantages from the P.W.E.
