SECRETARY, JOINT PLANNING STAFF. With reference to the discussion yesterday afternoon between the Strategical Planning Section and the Joint Intelligence Staff regarding paragraph 6(i) of your Note, J.P.(42)945(S) dated 10th November, 1942, the Joint Intelligence Staff submit the following:2. Germany's failure in North Africa and inability to prevent Allied action in the Western Mediterranean will have greatly weakened German military prestige in Italian eyes. The fact that Italy herself is now vulnerable to land and air attacks will impose yet a further strain on German-Italian relations.
