Japanese Intentions. Note by the Secretary

1 Oct 1942

ANNEX Summary of Conclusion reached in an Appreciation on Japanese Intentions in the light of events since June, 1942, prepared by the Joint Intelligence SubCommittee in India. 1. These events must tend to make Japan look more towards India but until situation Caucasus and Egypt clearer she will probably wait upon events rather than act in immediate future. 2. Attacks on Ceylon or South India still ruled out owing inability provide aircraft carriers and offensive against Bengal seems only feasible alternative.
