French Opinion on Bombing of Targets in Occupied France. Note by the Secretary

1 Aug 1942

In spite, however, of Vichy and German propaganda, air attacks in the past have not aroused popular feeling throughout France against the Allies. The weight of evidence is that the French people understand the necessity for these raids. We have no reason to believe that there would be any change in this respect in the near future. (Signed) V. CAVENDISH-BENTINCK. " F.F. INGLIS. " J.M. KIRKMAN (for D.M.I.). " C.R.W. LAMPLOUGH (for D.N.I.) " R.M.C. TURNER (for Colonel C.G. Vickers). Great George Street, S.W.1.
