The Situation in China. Note by Secretary

1 Aug 1942

ANNEX rom:Major-General F.H.N. Davidson, D.M.I. The War Office, Whitehall, S.W.1. MOST SECRET. Secretary J.I.C. China. In J.I.C. (42)213(0), written in early June, the conclusion was reached that, failing a display of Allied fighting power in the East, Chinese organised resistance might cease within six months. Two and a half months have now gone by since then. J.I.C.(42)319(0) shows that the Washington Combined J.I.C. similarly concludes that failure to support China might cause morale to deteriorate to such a point that organized resistance would cease.
