Future Planning Section Requirement - Spain. Note by the Secretary

1 Jul 1942

ANNEX B MOST SECRET FUTURE PLANNING SECTION With reference to your Note No. M/182 dated 11th August, 1942, the following are the views of the Joint Intelligence Sub-Committee. 1. It is clearly impossible to dogmatise about Spanish policy in the circumstances contemplated. On balance, however, replies to the questions are as follows:Paragraph 1 (a) Unlikely unless the Germans had available additional divisions to secure Spanish acquiescence and to follow up this advanced force rapidly. If "Torch" takes place early in October the Germans should not have these forces available.
