SECRET APPENDIX THE SITUATION IN ARABIA 1. General. Arabia is divided naturally and politically into three zones: (a) Northern Arabia, comprising Palestine, TransJordan, Syria, Iraq, and Kuwait; (b) Central Arabia, consisting of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; and (c) southern Arabia, comprising Yemen, Aden, the Hadramaut, Oman, and Bahrein. The northern and southern zones are at present under more or less effective British control; Saudi Arabia is independent. 2. Northern Arabia. a. Geographic. The rocky Syrian coast, backed by the Lebanon Mountains, is the only serious natural obstacle in the zone.
