E N C L O S U R E 1. Military Capabilities. The Chinese army consists of approximately 3,800,000 officers and men, including both "front line" and "rear area" troops. Front line troops, organized into 246 infantry divisions, 15 cavalry divisions and 29 independent brigades, number about 2,900,000.
