The Enemy's Immediate Intentions in the Middle East. Note by the Secretary

5. During the present lull one of the principal roles of the German Air Force will be to protect convoys to North Africa. For this purpose German Air Forces may be retained in Sicily. 6. There is no evidence of an intended seaborne attack on Palestine or Syria in the near future. The fact that the units of the Italian fleet which have been moved to the Aegean have been given the task of escorting convoys to North Africa tends to discount the possibility of such an atta 7. The Appendix contains an estimate of Rommel's present strength and the probable rate of reinforcement.
