SECRET. Future Planning Section. Chinese Resistance in Burma. With reference to your note No. M/142 dated 4th May, 1942, the following are the views of the Joint Intelligence Staff, the numbering of the following paragraphs corresponding with yours:2. (i) A maximum of about six months, depending, however, on the force and extent of any Japanese drive up the Burma Road. (ii) Also probably a maximum of about six months, since the need for conserving petrol stocks would preclude the transfer by the Chinese, to any great extent, of supplies from one part of the country to another.
