German Capabilities in Turkey, Syria and Iraq. Note by the Secretary

B. (c) German diplomatic activity in Turkey is a constant factor. Whatever view is taken of your factors (a) (e), we do not regard them as indications pointing to preparations for an attack on the Middle East. Enemy are likely only to maintain and, if possible, exploit their position in North Africa. Paragraph 4. (a) & (b) Agree. (c) We estimate 1-2 months needed to mount attack on 1 month to capture Cyprus. 1½-2 months to mount attack on Syria from Cyprus. Operation against Syria 1 month. Preparations for attack on Iraq further 3 months.
