Japan's Intentions Towards India. Report by the JIC.

1 Mar 1942

With the threat of the building up of counter offensive from America and Australia, and of hostilities with Russia, Japan is faced in the West with the decision whether to exploit her success by advance into India or to consolidate her position for the time being at any rate, so as to free forces for use elsewhere. 6. Possibly military strategy with regard to the conquest of India did not enter into Japan's calculations at the outbreak of hostilities.
