Combined Operations Against Sicily. Note by the Secretary

1 Mar 1942

C.AIR. 7. Conclusion. The present garrison of Sicily (4 divisions plus coast defence troops) is quite considerable, but in the face of a serious threat it might well be increased to as much as double this figure. These reinforcements could be moved to the Island within a week, provided that sufficient shipping had been concentrated beforehand at appropriate ports. A further three or four days would be required for moving the reinforcements to war stations. 8. German Air Force. (a) Some reduction in the present strength of the German Air Force in the Mediterranean area is expected when the Spring campaign against Russia begins.
