Persian Gulf Area - Scales of Attack. Note by the Secretary

1 Mar 1942

Air. 4. (a) In circumstances existing today. The only form of air attack which might be made on a special target such as a refinery in the Abadan and Bahrein oilfields would be a freak long range attack by ore or more German or Italian aircraft, fitted with extra tanks and carrying light bomb loads. Any such attempt would have to be by aircraft flying from Libya, and landing subsequently in Saudi Arabia with the risk of internment. (b) In the event of the Germans obtaining the use of aerodromes in Central and Eastern Anatolia or the Caucasus and Northern Iran.
