Security at Gibraltar. Note by the JIC.

1 Mar 1942

Falangist intelligence. The staff at the disposal of M.I.6 in Spain is at present inadequate to deal with this danger. 2. The problem must be tackled at both ends. Efforts are being made to strengthen the British Intelligence Staff at Madrid in order, inter alia, to safeguard Gibraltar against enemy espionage and sabotage. The intelligence required for safeguarding Gibraltar is however to be found not only in Madrid but also in Southern Spain. Unfortunately no suitable pied-a-terre for a special counter espionage officer exists in Southern Spain.
