Rumours of a Military Nature Intended to Mystify and Mislead the Enemy. Note by Secy.

1 Jan 1942

I.S.S.B./S.5 Serial No. Suggestions for rumours of a Military Nature submitted through Inter-Services Security Board for the current week. Suggestions. Submitted by. Remarks by GENERAL 1. (Q/252) Lord Croft's reference to "pikes" for the Home Guard was an indiscretion which it has been difficult to cover up without making him look foolish. "Pike" is, of course, the code name for the new seven-foot long, two-man flame-throwers. They have always had a "code" name for reasons of secrecy, as the first tanks had in the last war.
