Mediterranean ports, all point to greater activity in the Mediterranean and do not tally with any present intention to embark on large scale operations in South Russia in spite of Germany's need to obtain fresh sources of oil supply. 8. An Advance through Thrace into Turkey. There are no indications that Germany intends to make an immediate advance through Thrace and Turkey, and we believe that this is unlikely as a first step. We must assume, however, that the acquisition of oil is, for Germany, an important objective.
