Rumours of a Military Nature Intended to Mystify and Mislead the Enemy. Note by the Secretary

1 Oct 1941

Serial No. Suggestions. Submitted by Remarks of I.S.S.B. B (contd.) 6.(1779). Troops on the Eastern Front who had received rations of "frozen sweetbreads" from a rationing dump near Kiev mutinied when they found out what they had been asked to eat. 7.(1780). The reason why Odessa was evacuated was that typhus had such a grip on the town that the Russians preferred to leave it to the Rumanians. It has claimed more deaths among Axis troops since the fall than the siege did. 8.(1782). The abnormally heavy Luftwaffe casualties on the Eastern Front are due to the fact that German pilots get faint in the cold much more frequently than the Russians, who are better accustomed to it.
