Operation "Truncheo"n. Note by the Secretary

1 Oct 1941

C. For Period 6 (c) above:(i) From departure from Gibraltar until dark on D minus 2. As cover for this period we recommend an assault on Tripoli. This will be consistent with the actual course of the convoy until dark on D minus 2. To implement the above, it is recommended that "leakage" as regards Tripoli being the objective should be arranged at Gibraltar, some time during D minus 2. The decision as to the actual hour when this leakage is to be released will be made later. We recommend that this "leakage" should be supplemented by the following action:(a) That a submarine should, during the night of D minus 2/minus 1, continue on the daylight course and take certain action to attract enemy attention.
